AHOEC Critical Incident Training

AHOEC Critical Incident Training

How to prepare for & respond to a critical incident

29th January 2026 at Mount Cook Adventure Centre 10:00 - 15:00

Lunch included

This session will cover the wider incident response to any incident that can strike an outdoor centre (not just activity related incidents) covering both the operational and communications response.

It will also include preparation that Members can take in advance of any incident. This will include how to structure and what to include in a critical incident or emergency plan, incident escalation protocols, how to structure your incident response team, what tools and guides will be helpful to have in place before the incident strikes, how to prepare your team with the initial actions to take when you get that notification.

We will work through some practical tasks on tables to respond to a mock-up outdoor centre scenario that will also enable Members to consider how they might manage the press and other key stakeholders.

Benefits to your group
Many organisations' emergency plans are not at all helpful in the event of an actual incident - many are copied from the internet and are more of a placeholder than a genuinely helpful tool.  This session should be fairly universally helpful to all Members in plugging some gaps in their planning and emergency readiness.
